COWBOY Themed Chili Cook Off

Our church had a Chili Cook Off Friday night.  It was a western cowboy theme.  I helped out with the decorations and got some great ideas from this cowboy themed blue and gold cub scout banquet HERE.

We don't live out west, so we didn't have many western props.  We made due with what we had and I spend $0 on decorations, just using stuff I already had.

I started with the cowboy bunting.  Instead of using bandannas or scraps of fabric, I used scrapbook paper in an Americana theme.

Each 12 x 12 sheet yielded 8 triangles that I sewed together with my sewing machine.

I hung them up around the gym with some cowboy quotes that I found online.

In case you are ever in need of some clean cut cowboy quotes, here are the ones I used:

Howdy Partner
Ride ‘em Cowboy
Cowboy Up
Wet Your Whistle
The Buck stops here
Never kick a cow patty on a hot day
A Cowboy is a man with guts and a Horse

I gotta go see a man about a horse
(in case you don’t know what this one means, it means you have to pee.  I hung these up on the bathroom doors)

Never give your horse more attention than your wife
unless you like sleeping in the barn

There never was a horse that couldn’t be rode,
There never was a rider that couldn’t be throw’d

A Cowboy’s Prayer
May your belly never grumble
May your heart never ache
May your horse never tumble
May your cinch never break

I also brought along a large frame and some props like a hat, gun, and handcuffs, that people could use for picture taking fun.

These decorations were so simple and easy to make.  Don't limit yourself to cub scouts and chili cook off's.

This theme would be great for a birthday party, family reunion or other get togethers.

In fact, I'm doing the bunting from paper idea as a way to decorate for Easter.

Thanks for stopping by,
