Inspiration For The Weekend - 38

On Fridays I like to share something "inspirational".  A lot of my inspiration comes from someone else's creativity, and I'd like to share that with you too.

Last weekend Sweetie Pie turned 8 and was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.    You can read more about that HERE.

Every celebration needs a good dessert.  So being the creative genius copycat that I am, I searched the Internet for some ideas.

Here is what I found:
This is a cute baptism cake

CTR stands for Choose The Right, appropriate for choosing to be baptized.

Since we were also celebrating her 8th birthday, I thought something like this would be fitting.

It also looked simpler than the first two.  Simple as in the shape, not the decorative icing.

Sweetie Pie requested a peanut butter cake with peanut butter icing.   My mom has made that for parties in the past and it's become Sweetie Pie's favorite kind of cake.   I asked my mom to make it in the shape of an 8.

There are two ways to do this:
Make two bundt cakes and put one cake above the other so it looks like the number 8.
OR
Make two circle cakes, cut out the middles and put one cake above the other so it looks like the number 8.

My mom did the latter and here's how it turned out:

Sweetie Pie loved it!

And it was delicious.

What kind of cakes have you made (or gotten your mom to make) for your kid's birthdays?

Thanks for stopping by,

Baptism Day

In the LDS church we believe that children are born innocent. At the age of 8 they become accountable for their sins. Children from ages birth to 8 are to be taught by their parents the gospel and to learn right from wrong.

My oldest daughter turned 8 years old and has made the choice to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and be baptized a member of His church.

We had planned her baptism for Saturday September 29th.  However due to a family emergency we had to postpone it until Sunday the 30th.

When we are baptized we take upon us the name of Jesus Christ, we covenant to follow him and try to do as he would do.  In the scriptures it talks about what we covenant to do:
"and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light; Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God..."  Mosiah 18:8-9

That is exactly what we did on Saturday, we were bearing another's burdens, comforting those that stand in need of comfort.  We were helping out a family member who needed our love and support.  It was a great lesson about following Christ.  It is one thing to read the scriptures to your kids, or teach them the gospel principals, however, it is such a powerful lesson to actually live the gospel with your kids.  When we believe in Christ and desire to do Christ's work, we want to be a part of his church.  This is why we are baptized.

Sweetie Pie's baptism day was wonderful.  Everything turned out great, she kept saying how happy she was.

I had this little display on the table in the front of the room.

Baptism Pictures

In the LDS church we believe that children are born innocent. At the age of 8 they become accountable for their sins. Children are to be taught the gospel by their parents and to learn right from wrong.

Sweetie Pie turns 8 on Saturday and has made the choice to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and be baptized a member of His church.  She has been looking forward to this for years.  We are trying to make her day extra special.   Click HERE to find out how we made some simple centerpieces that we'll be using at the baptism.    She also wanted a white dress, 'the' perfect white dress for her special day.

Finding the perfect white dress took a while.  I should have been thinking about this earlier in the year when the stores had white dresses out at Easter time, maybe we could have found something after Easter on clearance.  Oh, well.  We did our shopping online and there were lots and lots of choices.  Finally Sweetie Pie decided this was the dress:

We went to a local college that had a 'peace garden' to take some pictures.
She did a great job of doing what I asked and posing.

I created a photo collage using PicMonkey (it was my first time using it -it was so easy), and used it to print out some invitations using Walmart's photo center.

Sweetie Pie picked out pink as the background color and we included the following at the bottom in white letters:
(her full name)
has chosen to be baptized a member of
The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter Day Saints
(date) (time) (location)
She would love to share this special event with you.

Just a few more preparations and we'll be all set.   Can't wait for her big day!
What have you done to make your child's baptism day extra special?

Easy Centerpieces

Sweetie Pie turns 8 on Saturday and in our church 8 is great since that's the age she can get baptized.  She has been looking forward to this day for years and is super excited.  All month long I've slowly been making preparations so her day will be extra special.

One of the things we made were these centerpieces.

They were so easy to make and totally customizable to match whatever theme or color combination you are using.
