Taking a break from mulching to fix something that has been bugging me for months.
Last winter (or maybe it was the winter before that, I don't remember) the snow plow that plows our street knocked into our mailbox. The whole box was ripped from it's base because one of the supporting bars was broken. For a couple of days we had to use a bag to collect our mail until the township replaced the broken support bar. Well, because of this accident the paint has been chipping off that part of our mailbox. It has only gotten worse over time and rather than buy a new mailbox, I thought I could just spray paint it.
Here it is before being painted:
And after:
Here's a closer look at the before:
I just taped off the mailbox and post so that the only things exposed were the door and bottom trim. I used Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint by Krylon to paint it.
I think it turned out good. So good, I might spray paint the whole mailbox and post ORB. Although I also like the contrast of the original color and the ORB trim. So it will stay like this for a while.
Here's what she looks like from the other side.
This was a quick and easy project with noticable results - just the kind of project I like.
One of these days I'll have to be outside when the mail lady comes and ask her if she's noticed anything different about our mail box. Maybe it's just noticable to me, but that silver spot in the before shot was really bugging me and I just had to do something about it.
(update on 5/24/12 - our mail lady did notice and she likes it!)
