Matching Bow Ties

I'm a sucker for a guy in a bow tie.  And seeing all 3 of my guys in bow ties, well, that just melts my heart and takes my breath away.

I thought it would be cute for Father's Day to have the boys wear matching bow ties so I started shopping around online.  At first I checked Etsy to find some matching father/son bow ties but didn't like those prices so I quickly came up with an inexpensive plan.  Instead of buying a toddler bow tie and two men's matching bow ties which would run about $50 on Etsy, I could buy 3 of the same bow tie from any store.  My toddler had been wearing my older son's men's size bow tie to church anyway and it didn't seem too big for him, plus he'll only grow into the men's size.  So my next step was to find some inexpensive bow ties and just buy 3 of the same one.  I ended up finding the best price on amazon.com.  Less than $2 per bow tie and shipping was free.  I couldn't pass up a deal like that.  I had to rein myself in and not buy one for every Sunday of the year.

HERE is the amazon.com affiliate link to the 3 matching bow ties.

I also ordered a few more for just the boys since bow ties aren't really my husband's style, he was just being nice and humoring me.  My older son on the other hand, will only wear bow ties to church.  So of course my younger son wants to wear them too.  They had been wearing the only 2 bow ties my older son owned, but now they have an assortment to choose from each week including the ones below.

These bow ties are adjustable and able to fit a toddler all the way up to an 18" neck.  I'm already thinking I should have bought more.

Father's Day Cards

Here are some cute Father's Day cards we just finished making.

I love cards that use the kid's fingerprints or handprints so you can look back years from now and see how little they were, plus it adds a personalized touch.

"Dad, You're Fin-tastic" is my favorite.  I'm a sucker for a play on words and this one just so happens to be a double play on words because "Fin" is my little guy's nickname.

These cards work great for dads and grandpas alike whether they love to fish or not.

You can check out my inspiration ideas HERE and HERE.

Tell the dad in your life you're "hooked" on him this Father's Day with an easy-to-make fish-themed card.:      Hooked on Daddy Fish Handprint Card. This is too cute for Father's Day! * Fish hand print * Hand print crafts * Kid's Father's day ideas * Father's Day crafts via @bestideaskids:

DIY Wooden Name Blocks

I made these cute wooden name blocks for my even cuter niece for Christmas.  They were pretty easy to make, the hardest part was choosing which pictures to put on them.

I started with some 3" by 3" blocks that I got from a free bin at a yard same.  They were painted primary colors but I knew I could do something with them.

First I painted the edges in case they showed through.  Then I used Mod Podge to stick on some scrapbook paper.  The easiest way to do this is to cut the paper slightly bigger than the blocks, apply the Mod Podge to the block, add the scrapbook paper and use an X-Acto knife to trim it to the correct size.

After that dried, I sanded down the edges for a little distressed look and added the photos and vinyl lettering.

They can be displayed vertical or horizontally.

These would be father's day gifts too.  I wanted to make these for my husband for father's day but never got around to it.  He finally got them for his birthday which was in November.  My back up plan was to give them to him for Christmas.  It's nice to know I can beat some deadlines.

I'm also thinking of making some for Valentine's day.  Here are some ideas I found via Pinterest HERE, HERE and HERE.

Anyone else making things with wooden blocks.  I'd love to see what you've done.  Feel free to link up in the comments below.

What to Get the Dad Who Has Everything

My dad is always hard to buy for, often claiming that he doesn't need anything but our love.  Is your dad or husband like that too?  It makes gift giving so difficult.  They usually have everything and don't need another shirt or tie.  So what do you get the Dad who has everything?  My go to gift has recently been food.  I've been getting my husband his favorite candy bars as birthday, Father's Day and Christmas gifts for over a year now and he loves it.   So I decided to get my dad some of his favorite food for Father's Day.  I also added some printables for fun.

I put everything in a gift bag with some tissue paper to make it look cute and worthy of gift giving.

And for my husband,  I did something similar using printables to match because I love a good play on words:

His gift bag wasn't as pretty but I don't think he'll mind.
Here's everything that's in the bag:

And a closer up view so you can actually see what it says:

Here's a list of the food/drink and its corresponding printable in case you can't read it in the photos:

Root Beer - Happy Father's Day to a great POP
Snickers candy bars - To my sweet, sweet husband on Father's Day
Circus animal crackers - I'm not clowning around when I say you're the best
Cookies - You are one smart cookie
Peanut butter Oreos - Sometimes a little nutty
Salsa - And always just the right amount of hotness
Chips - You're all that and a bag of chips

I put them in the gift bag in order so he'd read them that way so they'd make the most sense.

Consumable gifts are a great idea since they don't contribute to the clutter and can be enjoyed right away.  If you are looking for more last minute Father's Day gifts or printables, be sure to check out my Father's Day board on Pinterest.

And to all you dads and special men in our lives:

Happy Father's Day!!

New Dad Gift

Here's another Father's Day gift idea.  This one is perfect for the new dad and lucky for me, I know a new dad.  My sister and brother in law had a baby last month so while perusing Pinterest for Father's Day gift ideas, I saw THIS and knew I just had to make something similar for my brother in law.

I started with a block of wood cut to size and sanded.  The dimensions were roughly 3 x 7.

Then I painted it grey.

Using my silhouette cameo, I added the vinyl lettering.

And that's all there was too it.  Simple and cute.
Check out my Father's Day board on Pinterest for more gift and card ideas.

Thumb body Loves You Father's Day Card

Now that schools out, I am focusing on Father's Day in hopes of not making things at the last minute.  I've got several ideas in mind (all thanks to Pinterest) and the first one is this cute little "thumb bodies" love you card.  I got the ideas from HERE, and modified it to fit my needs.  Oh, and if you'd like to check out more Father's Day gift ideas and cards, you can follow along on my Father's Day Pinterest board HERE.

I created this design in Word making sure to leave space for the thumb prints.

Then I used washable markers and colored a thumb of each of my four kids to create the thumb bodies.

Here are the four thumb prints.

Using a black pen, I added arms, legs, eyes and a smile.
Don't they look so cute.

And here's the finished project!

A cute card and keepsake for Father's Day.  Of course you could do the same thing for Mother's Day or Valentine's Day.  Stay tuned for more Father's Day ideas, I hope to have two more posts for you before Father's Day.
